Random Drawing Generator

Random Drawing Generator could be 2 different tools with different purposes, because the word drawing has two different meanings.

  • Drawing can mean: "the selection of a winner or winners in a lottery or raffle".
  • Drawing can also mean: "a picture or diagram made with a pencil, pen, or crayon rather than paint, especially one drawn in monochrome".

Our Random Drawing Generator is used to select random winners in a drawing of a raffle. We might release a Random Drawing (Idea) Generator as well.

Random Picker

Random Picker is a free tool to draw a random name for a contest, giveaway, promotion or competition. It can also be used to just pick a random item from a list of items. The tool support names, teams, emails, numbers, songs, usernames and more.

We also provide filter options for the Random Picker to customize it. The options are explained below.

Number of winners

With this option you can select multiple random names at the same time. You can select up to 5 winners for each draw. The winners in one draw can never be the same name. Use the pick again button if you want that a name can be drawn multiple times.

Remove name from list of names after draw

If you select this option it will remove the name from the list of all names after it's randomly selected as winner of the raffle. This can be useful when you are picking multiple names one by one and don't want a name to be drawn twice.

Filter duplicate names

Let's say you have a huge list with names that you created. It could happen that you include a name twice by accident. Enabling this option will remove the double name and count them as one. If you use this for a raffle or contest and you want to give an extra entry you should disable this option.

Frequently Asked Questions

You can find answers of frequently asked questions about our tool in the list below. Is your specific question not in the list? Please send us a message via Facebook or Instagram.

Is Name Picker fair? This question is asked us a lot of times. For randomness we are using the Javascript method Math.random() which is pseudorandom. Pseudorandom numbers are random numbers that are generated by computers by using a seed and number generation algorithm. We can't manipulate the outcome of the drawing, since it's all generated on the client side.

Other tools generating random number server side where you can't see the code, which means in theory they could manipulate the outcome.

Our Name Picker app can handle `almost` an unlimited number of names. We tested the Name Picker to pick a random name out of 1 million names for a draw and it didn't had any issues. Should be enough right?

If you are using a large amount of names the tool/browser can be a little bit slower then you are used to, since it has to process all the names.

By default, we don't store any results of the raffle. We only store the results if you use one of the share buttons or the copy unique link button. Then we will store the name of the winner, total number of names and the date of the draw.

It's possible select up to 5 random names and winner in one draw. Do you need more? It's also possible to use the "pick another name" button (shown after a draw) which allows you to choose new names.

If you have selected the option "Remove name from list of names after draw" the previous winners will be removed from your list of names after a raffle, so that name will not be chosen twice.

You can calculate the probability with the following formula: 1 divide by the number of names and multiple it with 100% to calculate the probability in percentage. Example: when there are 15 entries, the change that your name is chosen is 1 / 15 * 100% = 6,667%. How larger the number of entries, how smaller the change is that your name is chosen.

Some say the probability is 50%: winner or not a winner ;-)

Sorry, we don't support this feature to save your list of names. This means that the list of names will be gone after you close your browser. Please let us know if this will be an interesting feature to improve the tool.

We don't generate a certificate of validity, since we believe that there will be always a way for an owner of a raffle to cheat with this in some way if they really want to.

We believe in honesty of people who are using our Name Picker app and that's why we decided to don't build it like other websites.
